Esko Pajamies Elefantti Chairs for Asko, 1970s
Esko Pajamies Elefantti Chairs for Asko, 1970s
A rare Elefantti chair designed by Finnish designer Esko Pajamies and manufactured by Asko in the 1970s. With its sculptural form, vivid orange upholstery and chromed tubular steel frame, the chair is a distinctive example of expressive Finnish modernist furniture design.
The Elefantti chair is defined by its wide, organically curved seat shell, which flows continuously from the backrest into the seat. The upholstered surface softens the bold silhouette and provides comfortable support, while the open cantilever-style steel frame keeps the overall appearance light and balanced.
The bright orange fabric gives the chair a characteristic 1970s look. A contrasting light-coloured outer shell remains visible from the back, emphasising the curved profile and construction of the design.
Good vintage condition with signs of age and use consistent with the chair’s age. The fabric upholstery remains clean and presentable, with light wear and minor variation. The chromed steel frame and outer shell show small marks and surface wear. The chair is intact, sturdy and ready for use. Please review all images for details.
