Yrjö Kukkapuro Lamp for SLO-Metal Oy

This suspended pendant light was designed by Finnish designer Yrjö Kukkapuro and manufactured in Finland by SLO-Metal Oy. Its long horizontal form was conceived for a public interior, giving it a clear architectural presence and broad, even illumination.

SLO-Metal Oy formed part of Finland’s established lighting industry, with production that included technical and architectural fittings. The manufacturer’s labels remain on the light, providing a direct identifying detail, while the model name and exact production date are currently unknown.

The elongated rectangular housing combines white acrylic with metal components. Metal chains support the light at both ends, while dark end fittings and visible fasteners punctuate the otherwise restrained white surface. The fitting uses a halogen light source and includes its suspended power cable.

Two examples are available, each sold individually. Both lights function well and are in tidy vintage condition. Their chain suspension allows the fitting to hang horizontally above a table, counter or other defined area.

The generous linear profile makes this light particularly suited to a dining table, reception desk, meeting space or open room where focused illumination and a strong graphic element are needed. Its understated materials and softly diffused white surface give it a distinctive yet adaptable presence.
